At LottoStar, we believe that small acts of kindness can create ripples of change. This year, through the unwavering support of our players, we’ve had the privilege of making a meaningful impact in communities across South Africa.
Here’s a look at how we’ve worked together to bring hope, uplift lives and build a brighter future:
Summer of Millions charities
Every LottoStar competition is an opportunity to give back and this year’s Summer of Millions competition with Metro FM was no exception. Our players raised R400,000 for The Star Foundation. These funds were directed to four inspiring charities, selected by Metro FM presenters:
Save the Vaal
Water is life, and protecting South Africa’s largest river, the Vaal, is critical. Earlier this year, invasive water lettuce and hyacinth threatened this vital water source, which supplies the nation’s economic heartland. Thanks to LottoStar’s partnership with SAVE, 90% of the contamination has been removed which is a significant step toward safeguarding our future.
Hein Wagner Academy
Born blind, Hein Wagner sees the world through the lens of possibility. His academy equips blind and visually impaired individuals with in-demand cybersecurity skills. LottoStar contributed to the academy’s operations, ensuring that this transformative initiative continues to change lives.
Fighting Cancer with Hope
In October, during Cancer Awareness Month, our Summer of Millions competitions on Kfm 94.5 and 947 raised vital funds for two remarkable organizations:
Darren Thomas
Darren Thomas, a para-athlete and CrossFit champion, exemplifies resilience and determination. As the world’s 9th Fittest Adaptive Seated Without Hip Athlete, Darren’s journey is nothing short of inspirational. LottoStar contributed R90,000 to help Darren compete at the CrossFit Games in Texas, where he made South Africa proud.
Sebokeng Hospital
In partnership with Carte Blanche’s Making a Difference Trust, LottoStar helped build and equip a dedicated Paediatric Emergency Unit at Sebokeng Hospital. Previously, children were treated in adult emergency wards, with equipment not designed for their tiny bodies. Now, with this new unit, 2,500–3,000 children annually will receive the specialized care they deserve.
As we step into 2025, we remain inspired to do more, dream bigger and touch even more lives. With the continued support of our players and partners, we look forward to making an even greater impact. Charity is our privilege, not an obligation.
