The lockdown may be a difficult time for many across the world but it is not doom and gloom for Ryan Hoyle, the winner of £58 million in the EuroMillions lottery. This is just over R1,4 billion in South Africa. The single father and joiner from near Rochdale in Greater Manchester, found out that he had won the £58 million jackpot prize while checking his online lottery account at 6am on Saturday, April 18. “The email linked to my account which looked like a lot of numbers and I thought it might be millions, but I could not believe what my eyes were seeing. I couldn't make sense of it and really needed to talk to someone, so I called mum and dad.”
Ryan drove straight to his parents’ house after discovering the good news, however, he had to keep the government lockdown guidelines and told his parents the good news through the window of their home. “I passed the phone through the window for them to double-check for me. They even checked my numbers against another website, just to be sure. It was real - I had won £58 million.”
Ryan does not intend on spending his winnings on himself but wants to use it to help his family. He wants to spoil his daughter with a trip to Walt Disney World in Florida after travel restrictions are lifted. In addition, Ryan plans to help his brother finish building his house and give his parents a share of his winnings so that they can retire.
Ryan now ranks in 20th place on the UK National Lottery millionaires' rich list and his win makes him wealthier than many celebrities. Due to the lockdown, Ryan purchased his winning ticket online, the winning numbers are as follows: 16, 28, 32, 37, and 45, while the winning EuroMillions lucky star numbers were 01 and 11.
Just goes to show that not all hope is lost during this time.
