Power Couple is an extremely popular international reality show that pits couples against each other in the hopes to win the "magic million" prize and carry the power couple title. It's being broadcast in English for the first time ever and to top it off… it's in South Africa!
Always proud to break new ground and offer you the most entertaining experiences, Lottostar teamed up with the reality show. With Power Couple poised to be the best in SA reality TV, it made a lot of sense for the best lotto betting site in South Africa to put its full weight behind the show. The show premieres on 11 September 2015 and will feature 8 couples.
M-Net says that the show encapsulates love, power, trust and money. The show will thrust each relationship into the spotlight and force them to endure the challenges. It's not all for kicks. The winner gets to walk away with "magic millions". M-Net hopes that its DSTV channel 101 will enjoy soaring ratings as did channels airing the show in Israel, Portugal and Brazil.
With the most expensive house in the country located in Cape Town, the show's producers couldn't have chosen a better city to base the show. The couples will move into a secret luxurious villa somewhere in Cape Town.
Each week, the couples will face intense challenges that test their devotion, trust and knowledge of their partners. Slightly reminiscent of the hit show Survivor, two couples will be up for elimination each week. The remaining couples will get to vote on which couple they'd like to keep on the show.
Power Couple SA will be hosted by none other than KFM's Ryan O'Connor! Watch Ryan talk about the show in the video below.
Who are SA's power couples?
We've compiled a list of the latest power couples below. Hopefully it'll help you get more acquainted with the couples before the show.
Dean and Crystal
Both Dean and Crystal are nutritionists based in Cape Town. With seven years and a half of marriage under their belts, they should have a firm understanding of each other's strengths and weaknesses. Their bond has produced a daughter. For them trust is as good as a strong vase. It's strong, but once it breaks, it can never be restored to its original state.
Dylan and Viki
Dylan and Viki have a solid six years of marriage that bonds them together. If you include the time spent together before marriage, bonds span 18 years. For this couple from Salt Rock in KwaZulu Natal, "mutual respect is a condition of love". With such a strong history and binding philosophy, they're sure to be strong contestants.
Emile and Razia
Hailing from Johannesburg, Emile and Razia's bonds have started 19 years ago and was cemented with marriage six years later. Not only do they have a long history together, they are both heavily into fashion. The couple has three daughters.
Gift and Bana
With two years together, Gift and Bana haven't been married for as long as some of the other couples and have no children thus far. However, unlike the couples, they work and live together. Spending so much time together surely puts them in a league of their own.
Roshila and Ivan
This couple has been married for eight and a half years and have no children. Angelina Jolie's marriage to Brad Pitt inspires them. Their appreciation for Brangelina has them unafraid to fight, argue or disagree. If they are used to arguing and hashing out their differences, they must surely be strong contenders.
Juran and Juanita
Port Elizabeth's Juran and Juanita are in a two-year relationship and haven't sired any children. More diplomatic in their approach, this couple agrees that power struggles are necessary. Throughout their arguments, they always figure out which battles should be won by whom.
Phindi and Mo
Mo and Phindi are both Durbanites and have been married for 10 years. They are responsible for three children as well as Mo's son from a prior relationship. The two believe that "love has to be unconditional to last". With this attitude, they may just have the positivity needed to carry them through the challenges.
PJ and Marzanne
These newly weds are also from Cape Town and have been married for a month. However, they've been seeing each other for five years. They haven't brought forth any children yet. They trust that love is dependent on friendship, respect and other factors.
With each of these couples bringing unique sets of experiences, strengths and weaknesses to the table, it's going to be a particularly exciting journey for audiences, the Power Couple SA team and Lottostar.co.za.
