One lucky person in Arizona in the United States of America has just become the newest millionaire. On Wednesday, the $410 Million Mega Millions Jackpot was won by a single ticket holder making it the first person to win the Mega Millions Lottery in the state. This is the second time, this year, that the Mega Millions jackpot has been won. The prize money is worth $318.8 Million in cash which is R5,3 billion in South Africa.
The major jackpot winner could be considered as one of the luckiest people as the odds of winning the Mega Millions are 1 to 302,575,350 in the 45 states in America where the lottery is offered, which includes Washington and the Virgin Islands. The winner has not yet come forth to claim their prize, but if they do, their identity may never be revealed as Arizona laws stipulates that winners of over $10 000 (R166,823) remain anonymous for 90 days after their win and then can choose to remain anonymous for good.
The lucky winner paid $2 (R33) for their Mega Millions ticket and matched six numbers drawn plus the bonus Mega Ball. The Mega Millions Jackpot will now be reset to $20 million which is lower than normal due to lower ticket sale purchases as result of the Covid 19 pandemic. In addition to the $410 million jackpot winner, 13 other tickets matched 5 numbers in the Mega Millions draw. Four of these tickets paid out $2 Million each (R33,8 Million) as they included the optional Megaplier.
