As South Africans continue to brave the harsh realities of the National lockdown, the circumstances for many families become more dire, each day. Many households have no source of income and cannot afford to buy food and other essentials during this difficult time. LottoStar and Kfm understand how difficult this time is for so many families and are doing all we can to provide some relief and assistance through our #WeAreFamily initiative.
These are the Five recipients of R10 000, each in part 6 of #WeAreFamily:
Recipient 1: Abram Leshiba
Abram is an Uber driver and father of five children, him and his wife are both not working during the lockdown. Abram cannot earn an income as his clutch plate gave in and he does not have the money to replace it. Abram and his wife need to provide for their family and are in desperate need of financial assistance. Thanks to Abram for sharing his story, he will receive R10 000.
Recipient 2: Naomi Isaacs
Naomi is the only one that works in a household of 7. However, with the lockdown in place, she will not be working or earning an income. She takes care of her sick husband. He was recently discharged from hospital after a major operation. Naomi’s daughter and her 4 children are also staying with them and she must provide for them too because her daughter is not working at the moment. Naomi’s story was shared by her friend, Percival Boezak. We gave Naomi R10 000 to assist during this challenging time.
Recipient 3: Shanice Voltyn
Shanice was nominated by her employer, Gavin Udeman and will receive R10 000. Shanice works in a diner owned by Gavin, who was only able to pay his employees’ salaries in the first stage of the lockdown. Unfortunately, he could not afford to pay his staff after the extension of the lockdown as he lives off his bond. Shanice is twenty years old and lives in a house with; her mom, her grandparents, her uncle and his girlfriend and her little brother and her best friend, Jody. Shanice supports their entire household as her grandparents are too old to work, her brother too young to work, her best friend is pregnant, and her mother is also out of work during lockdown.
Recipient 4: Megan Carter
Megan and her fiancé, Alex were nominated by their friend, Joanne Martens and will receive R10 000. Megan and Alex have a two-year-old daughter. Sadly, Megan suffered a spinal injury and has a speech disability which makes it difficult for her to find a job. The family live off her sassa grant as Alex has not had job since January as the garden company he worked for closed. Ever since, Alex collects second-hand appliances and sells them to make a living, however, due to the lockdown he has is no source of income. The couple are in an extremely difficult situation as they cannot afford to pay their rent or buy food.
Recipient 5: Reagan Windvogel
Reagan, his fiancé and his children are in desperate need of financial assistance. Reagan was recently retrenched a month before lockdown, he started a Fruit & Veg stall to help his fiancé pay the rent and creche fees and to assist the elderly in their community so that they don’t have to walk long distances to purchase fruits and vegetables. Since the lockdown, Reagan and his fiancé do not have money to pay their rent and their children’s creche fees for the month. Reagan needs to support his family but has no income due to the lockdown. Thanks to Reagan for sharing his story, him and his family will receive a R10 000 helping hand.
