Once is not enough
Rickey Meng, also known as the "King of Ohio lottery winners" has won more prizes than most people can hope for. The Cleveland native has won 342 tickets and taken home about 956,717 Dollars, within seven years. He attributes his streak to him having a feel for lucky numbers. "I would see a number on a license plate or an address, and it would just jump out at me," Meng is quoted as saying.
When asked about his high number of winnings, Marie Kilbane Seckers, a spokeswoman for the Ohio Lottery, said "He is definitely an outlier. It is astounding. I agree."
But Meng is not the only lucky guy in his state. According to the news organisation PennLive, Ohio has some of the highest numbers of frequent winners in America, with Ohio having 112 players with 50 or more wins of at least $600. All of Meng's 342 winning tickets have been for prizes of at least $600. However, there are those even luckier than he.
Lottery couple keep cashing in
In 2014, couple Calvin and Zatera Spencer from Portsmouth won the lottery three times in a month. Three times! $1.000.000 was one from a scratchcard, $50.000 in a Pick 4 game and another $1.000.000 in a Powerball drawing.
The couple’s winning streak started on 12 March 2014, when they struck it lucky and bagged a $1 million Powerball win after matching the first five numbers. Then, on 26 March, the world’s luckiest couple hit the big time again – winning $50,000 in the Virginia Lottery's Pick 4 game. The very next day the two won yet another $1 million prize in a scratch-off game. Not bad for a month!
After cashing in their last winnings, Mr. Spencer vowed they would never stop playing, saying: “We’re not finished yet.”
Six times lucky
Probably one of the most astounding stories is that of an Arizona man who won $1.000.000 six times – in the same evening – in 2012. He bought six tickets with identical main numbers, but different Power Balls, which didn’t lead him to the top prize, but he still ended up winning $6.000.000. “It's absolutely fantastic and as rare as it might be, it does happen. The fact that they came three different times had to do with something only known to them and certainly not known to us,” said executive director of the Arizona Lottery Jeff Hatch Miller.
