Retired couple in Scotland scoop a whopping £57.9 million EuroMillions jackpot win!People | Interesting | Euromillions
What an amazing win! Retired couple in Scotland win EuroMillions jackpot earlier this month and describe the life-changing experience.
Imagine Fred and Lesley Higgins' delight and astonishment when they were informed that their ripped winning ticket won an outstanding amount!
The couple from Laurencekirk, Aberdeenshire matched seven numbers but had to wait two weeks for confirmation of their win as the winning ticket was accidentally torn in half and thrown in the bin by a staff member, Sean Grant, at the local Scotmid Co-Operative store in Laurencekirk. Sean apologized for the honest mistake as he thought it was yet another set of losing numbers.
Upon realizing the mistake when the terminal produced a chitty stating that the ticket be retained, and a call be made to Camelot, the worker handed the torn ticket back to a jubilant Mr Higgins (67), a regular Tuesday and Friday player. During the two week wait the Higgins, in anticipation, placed the ticket in an envelope and wrote on the front 'money worries over'.
Since the £57.9 MILLION win, Mrs Higgins (57) has resigned from her job as an account manager and together with her husband, with whom she has been married to for 35 years, started planning for a Barbados and French holiday. Their dream of living abroad has finally coming true, but their first step was to take care of their loved ones, and to purchase a new Audi Cabriolet. Celebrations amazingly coincided with Mrs Higgins birthday and their wedding anniversary.
This enormous win has changed lives forever, and to quote Mrs Higgins, she "ensures the next four generations are taken care of". She also states that, "we're not going to throw it about like confetti, but we may take a few calculated risks".
This tremendous win ranks as number 14 on the list of the biggest lottery prizes won in the UK. Previous winners include: Colin and Chris Weir won £161 million in 2011; Adrian and Gillian Bayford won £148 million in 2012; an unnamed ticket holder claimed more than £113 million in 2010; Neil Trotter and partner Nicky Ottaway won nearly £108 million in 2014; Dave and Angela Dawes won more than £101 million in 2011 and a UK winner got £93 million in 2015.
Mr and Mrs Higgins will certainly be enjoying their delightful fortune!
