This Wednesday’s jackpot is now the 9th largest in the history of the Powerball lottery. The jackpot has now rolled over from $489 Million (over R7,5 Billion in South Africa) as there was no winner on Saturday, 9 January.

Although there was no grand prize winner this past Saturday, two players matched all 5 white numbers drawn to win $1 Million (over R15,4 Million). Tickets were sold in Florida and Pennsylvania.

However, had the two players played the Power Play option, they would have increased their winnings to $2 Million (over R30,9 Million).

Matt’s mother-in-law, Jane, runs and now owns the visitor site at Rushmoor Country Farm Park in Louth with her daughters. The couple also used their winnings to fill the zoo with horses, pigs, pygmy goats, llamas and ducks. They’ve also purchased a falconry centre to house hawks, falcons, barn owls and sea eagles. The 31-year-old newlyweds have gotten used to being millionaires and have been making the most out of their winnings over the last eight years.

Matt, who was a painter and decorator before his major win, has now trained as a helicopter pilot and a racing driver. He has also pursued his love for cars by purchasing numerous luxury cars such as a Jaguar XKR-S, Range Rover Evoque, Porsche and an Aston Martin DB9. In addition, the millionaire couple splurged on building their dream home.

Matt and Cassie purchased a 1930s mansion in Adams Hill, Nottingham, for £1.2million (R24 Million) – which they demolished to make way for their new home, a £5 million (R102 Million) eight-bedroom eco-home named 'Serenity'.

Their lavish dream mansion consists of a sound-proof cinema, a botanical garden, a swimming pool and much more. However, not everyone was impressed with the couple’s flashy mansion as many of their neighbours criticised their home calling it ‘out of character for the area’ but when you have millions in your bank account why would you be concerned with your nosey neighbours?

R3,7 MILLION AFRICA MILLIONS LOTTERY WINNER

Living the millionaire life may not be everyone’s idea of ‘the perfect life’. Just take Hairdresser, Susan Herdman who won £1,2 Million (R25 Million) in 2010 in the UK National Lottery. Instead of doing what most people would do, swapping their everyday lives for a life of luxury and opulence, Susan decided to live a seemingly simple life.

Before winning a major lottery jackpot 10 years ago, Susan was a single parent who was struggling to make ends meet. Besides her major Lottery win, she has not given up her working life. “I’ve been a hard worker all my life,” says Susan, 52. “I’ve always had jobs and my parents instilled in me that if you want something, work for it – no one gives you a life – and don’t get into debt.”

Susan started purchasing a lottery ticket just after the National Lottery launched in 1994, she would buy a ticket for her dad each week. When he stopped playing the lottery, Susan continued to play the same numbers as her dad as she believed that one day she would win on those numbers.

“It was like an absolute strong inner belief that I was going to win,” she explains. “When I was doing my clients’ hair, I never used to say ‘if’ I win the lottery. It was ‘when’.”

Years later, one of Susan’s clients offered to read her Tarot cards, she joked around and told Susan that “one day she’d win the lottery”.

As Susan recounts, “it was a bit of fun, we had a couple of glasses of wine, and she said, ‘I am not a fortune teller. I’m not psychic. You are picking the cards that you want and then I am just telling you what each card means.

“She sat back in her chair and said, ‘You’d best get a lottery ticket because it looks to me like you’re going to win the lottery.’ So, we just laughed about it and she went, ‘No, really. The world is your oyster.”

That same night, Susan posted what her friend had predicted on Facebook and believe it or not, her prediction was spot on!

“I was cooking tea and hearing Dale Winton’s voice in the next room. So, I ran through and I pressed pause. I went back into the kitchen and got my spaghetti carbonara to eat on my lap and as I looked up at the numbers frozen on the screen I started shaking.”

The jackpot had rolled over to £7,500,000 (R158 Million) that week, nervous, Susan dialled the number on the back of the ticket.

“When a lady answered, I said, ‘I think I’ve won the lottery.’ It’s all a bit of a blur but she told me to put my name and address on the ticket and keep it safe – and write down a password because tomorrow morning somebody will ring and they will say that password, so then I would know they were legit.” Susan did as she was told.”

Susan was buzzing with excitement and decided to go to karaoke that evening, she put her ticket in her bra for safekeeping and did not tell anyone about her win. When Susan returned home at midnight, she checked her laptop and saw that 5 people had won the jackpot which meant her prize would be £1,1 Million (R23 Million).

“There were no hysterics, no running around the room screaming. It was just this big, ‘Thank God. Thank you.’ Just absolute relief that if I was careful, I’d be OK financially for the rest of my life. I wouldn’t have to just constantly battle against the clock, squeezing in appointments.”

Susan shared the amazing news with her parents the next day, “I said, ‘I’ve won the lottery.’ And at that point, I burst into floods of tears. My mum was speechless, and my dad literally jumped up and grabbed me and said, ‘About bloody time!”

Unlike many winners who would opt to live a life of luxury after winning a major lottery, Susan continued working in her salon for the first six months after winning. Later, Susan decided to relocate to live with her boyfriend, Andrew who is a pig farmer and owns a farm in North Yorkshire. She may have chosen to lead a simple life but Susan made sure to splurge on a large motorhome which would allow her and Andrew to enjoy their motorsports hobby. She also treated her two sisters and parents to holidays and cars.

Susan maintains that the money has not changed her and is happy living her simple life, she has also asked her friends to treat her normally. She wishes that everyone could experience winning the lottery. “My advice is just be sensible,” she says. “Don’t go crazy. Appreciate that happiness can’t be bought.”

LIVING THE SIMPLE LIFE AFTER WINNING A MAJOR LOTTERY

Change is in the air and it's not just the seasons – The 

 will be implementing its Rolldown draw prizes from Saturday 7th November. A Rolldown happens when the jackpot has rolled over so many times that the prize has to be won (Must Be Won draws). Therefore, for the first time in National Lottery history, players stand a chance to win £5 (R104) for matching two numbers in addition to their free Lucky Dip to play the next draw.

Under Lotto rules when a Lotto has rolled over 5 consecutive times, the jackpot must be won in the sixth draw. This has not changed with the advent of the new Rolldown rule.

In Must Be Won draws, if there are no players who match all six numbers, the match 6 jackpot is rolled down and shared between all lower-tier cash prize winners. Therefore, players in the other tiers (Match 3, Match 4, Match 5) win larger prizes than usual. With the new changes, Match 2 players will be added to the Rolldown draw and winners in the Match 2 tier will receive a free Lucky Dip plus an extra £5 cash.

A spokesman from The National Lottery stated: “The Lotto Rolldown feature has proven popular with our players since it was added in November 2018, with millions of players benefiting from boosted prizes in these Rolldowns.

” “But we’re always looking at ways to make our games even better, and one thing that Match 2 winners were regularly telling us was that they wanted a share of the jackpot too.

“So, from Saturday, November 7, when we have a Rolldown, everyone could scoop a share. As well as their free Lucky Dip, Match 2 winners will win £5.

“This update to Lotto will mean that, on average, 1.1 million players matching two main numbers in a Lotto Rolldown will also experience the excitement of a boosted prize and share of the jackpot.”

An enhancement has been made so that in the event of no one matching all six main numbers in a Lotto Must Be Won Draw:

- The jackpot will be used to pay all Match 2 prize winners in that draw a £5 cash prize in addition to their usual Lotto Lucky Dip.

- The remaining jackpot will be shared across all other cash prize tiers in line with the Lotto Game Procedures.

- This will mean ALL PRIZE TIERS from Match 2 to Match 5 plus the Bonus Ball can expect to receive a boost to their prize.

A CHANGE IN THE UK NATIONAL LOTTERY

There was no overall winner for both the 

 jackpots from the weekend’s drawings. Meaning that the combined jackpot for both lotteries is at a whopping $225 Million (R3,6 Billion in South Africa).

The Mega Millions jackpot for this Tuesday, 27 October 2020, is set at a magnificent $109 Million (R1,7 Billion in South Africa), while this Wednesday’s (28 October 2020) Powerball jackpot is $116 Million (R1,8 Billion).

POWERBALL, MEGA MILLIONS AT A COMBINED R3,6 BILLION PAYOUT!

 reported that Friday’s lotto draw (23 October) will be worth $97 Million (R1,5 Billion) with a cash option of $75,1 Million (R1,2 Million). These were the lotto results for Tuesday’s (20 October) Mega Millions draw: 46-54-57-58-66. The Gold Mega Ball: 10 and the Megaplier: 3.

According to the ML, the highest prize won in Tuesday’s draw was $1,500 (R24,406) which was sold in Michigan and making it the highest winning ticket in the city.

She was only 17 years old at the time and won off the first lottery ticket she had ever purchased. Seven years later, Jane has splurged almost all her winnings on plastic surgery and living luxuriously, she has also encountered a few cases with law enforcement. She has even threatened to sue the UK National Lottery, holding them accountable for all the misfortunes she has encountered since her win.

This major winner is a bit different than usual – Robert Salso, from New York, USA, purchased a $2 (R32) Win for Life scratch ticket in 2012. He struck it lucky and won $1 Million (R16 Million), however, instead of getting paid out all at once, he won $1000 (R16,462) a week, for the rest of his life. Robert was the youngest Win for Life scratch card winner at the time and he planned on purchasing a BMW and paying for his college tuition with his winnings.

19-year old, Jay Vargas struck it lucky in 2008 when he won a massive $35,3 Million (R581 Million) US Powerball jackpot. Jay quickly quit his construction job to live a life of luxury, he too fell into the trap of splurging all his cash.
