At their various centres, they prepare and serve hot meals. In addition to this, they also support feeding schemes through the provision of thousands of meals daily.

Furthermore, Gift of the Givers receives multiple calls from hospital and clinic staff where many of their patients suffer from TB. Nor are they only fighting their illnesses they are fighting hunger as well.

Organizations like Bobbie Bear help to provide a better understanding of actual events and enables the initiation of appropriate HIV and AIDS interventions. In the past 9 years reported cases of child sexual abuse have increased by 400%. It’s estimated that 51% of adults between 16 and 45 years are HIV+ in KwaZulu-Natal. Child rape victims experience secondary abuse when giving statements, evidence, and while being medically examined.

Some of the many objectives include applying therapeutic methods with the use of Bobbi Bear, to obtain forensic facts and evidence to assist the criminal process, within the best interests of the child. To empower and train local communities to collaborate with the criminal justice system, to ensure the rights and safety of the child (Preventative Measures). To train identified members within communities to be trained as community child safety officers and increase awareness within local communities, with the aid of Bobbi Bear as a symbol against sexual abuse and HIV/AIDS.

 helped a young Monde Mashexa reclaim his independence with R44,000 in contributions from our How Lucky Can You Get? competition with 

Returning home from a rugby tour at the age of 17, Monde was accidentally shot four times in the spine and became paralyzed from the waist down. It has been a long 23 years of recovery for him and his family. Monde is 40 years old now and currently resides in Cosmo City in the West Rand.

A couple of years ago, Monde purchased a car that was adapted to his specific needs which gave him the freedom to move around. It was his lifeline to work and independence. He was also able to buy his own house.

Despite all the odds against him, such as not completing his matric, Monde kept his fighting spirit and did not give up. He has worked hard and completed his qualifications in IT and Accounting.

However, in 2019 he was retrenched. Shortly after was involved in an accident where the other driver smashed into his car from the side. The car got fixed but the mechanics did not notice the extensive damage that happened to the gearbox. Unemployment hasn’t made life easy as he was unable to drive his car and, his mom has been helping him pay for his bond.

LottoStar has graciously donated R44,000 to assist Monde to get his car repaired, pay his bond and other expenses while he searches for a new job in the meantime.

The world has evolved but women are still facing challenges such as lack of representation in positions of power and patriarchy. Let’s speak about the fact that you are very much in a male-dominated industry, but you at LottoStar most of your department heads are women, was this intentional?

Yes, it was intentional. I believe that women have something to prove and hard workers. At the end of the day, women get things done. My husband and I own the business together, because of this he pushes me beyond my boundaries. One of his talents is that he understands my talents and gives me creative freedom.

You just mentioned your husband. You say he often pushes you outside of your comfort zone and you also believe in trying everything once?

Marrying my husband has been one of the best things to happen in my life. I’m continuously inspired to try new ideas and campaigns. In business one should be open to trying different things and, it’s always the weirdest things that end up working. LottoStar’s Big September with Kfm 94.5 is one of our biggest success stories. Everyone experiences failures, including myself. At the end of the day, if you do not try, you’ll never know.

Is there a mistake you have done and said to yourself this is the worst mistake I could have done, but you turned it around?

There was a time we launched a campaign that was my idea. Let’s just say it went very, very wrong. I had to call my team in to help me out of a hole. We all came together to turn things around for the best. As leaders we need to remember that we are not on our own, we’ve got a support system in the people they work with.

What advice do you have for women who are going through difficult times?

It’s important to compartmentalize. If one fails to do that everything will overflow. As women, it’s easy to go home and automatically think of work. Which leaves no time for your children, family, husband, or most importantly yourself. At work, I think you have to keep on going because of the passion and the drive.

The orphanage is a non-commercial centre that cares for orphaned and injured baby rhinos, with the aim to release the rhinos into the wild once they are ready and healthy.

The Rhino Orphanage was created due to the lack of specialized places to specifically rear baby rhinos who have been orphaned because of the current poaching crisis, because of this the orphanage incurs huge monthly costs to maintain the security of the animals, and so much more.

Baby rhinos suckle for two years, because of this, they need be bottle-fed with a special formula and be kept in heat-controlled environments for some time. The orphanage absorbs all the costs for the first 4-5 years of the baby rhino’s life. When they turn 5, they are relocated.

Additionally, the orphanage is also chipping and tracking the injured animals they have received.
