The USA Powerball has its first jackpot winner in 2019. Wednesday night’s jackpot was at a whopping $768.4 million, which is around R11,3 billion in South Africa.
Now, the lucky Wisconsin winner has made history by winning the third-largest lottery prize in US history and will now be taking home an estimated $477 million as a lump sum payout.
The winning lucky numbers were 16, 20, 37, 44, 62 and 12 being the Powerball.
“It’s going to be a very green spring for our first Powerball jackpot winner of 2019”, said the Powerball Product Group chairman and New Mexico Lottery CEO, David Barden. “
A jackpot of this size can make many dreams come true — not just for the winner, but for all Lottery beneficiaries and the lucky state of Wisconsin”, continued Barden.
Due to increasing ticket sales, the jackpot amount moved up from $750 million to $768.4 million. Which according to Powerball is the largest lottery jackpot of 2019. Powerball also states that the odds of winning this jackpot was 1 in 292 million.
According to Powerball, the only jackpots larger than this Wednesday’s one were the record-breaking $1,586 billion claimed by winners in Colorado, California and Tennessee in January 2016. While the second-largest one was claimed by a South Carolina woman who bagged $1,537 billion Mega Millions jackpot in October 2018.
The jackpot has now reset to $40 million for Saturday’s draw.
