LottoStar, in collaboration with Carte Blanche’s Making A Difference Trust, has helped establish a brand-new paediatric ward at Sebokeng Hospital, which previously lacked dedicated facilities for children. This project has been underway for the past 3 years.

A paediatric ward is essential in hospitals as it provides specialized care that is tailored to the unique medical needs of children, leading to improved treatment outcomes. The ward not only has to be child-friendly but also welcoming, which helps children feel more at ease.

Many government hospitals across South Africa face significant challenges, including overcrowding, limited resources, and outdated infrastructure, all of which can hinder patient care. The lack of essential facilities and specialized wards, such as paediatric units, often limits children’s access to appropriate treatment. For instance, Sebokeng Hospital previously lacked a dedicated paediatric ward, requiring children to be treated in general wards with equipment designed for adults, such as masks and tubes. This new paediatric ward now ensures that children receive care with equipment and facilities specifically suited to their needs.

The recent addition of a paediatric ward is a significant step in addressing these gaps, providing essential resources and facilities for the hospital to deliver better and more focused to the children in the community. At least 2500 - 3000 children will receive medical attention every year with this wing.

Children in Sebokeng and surrounding areas will have access to specialized, age-appropriate care. Not only will this new ward improve the health outcomes for children but will bring peace of mind to the parents who can now rely on a local hospital for their children’s medical needs.

I flew all the way from Cape Town to Johannesburg and entered both competitions—by pure luck, I made it to 947! I'm absolutely over the moon about this big win!



Absolutely! I'm very superstitious and I kept seeing signs that this was meant to happen. I chose the 11th ScratchCard in round 3, inspired by my favourite scripture and here we are now.


Tell us about the final, nail-biting moment!


When it came down to the final round, the other two contestants got to pick their cakes first and I was left with the last one. In my heart, I knew that the last cake was meant for me—and I was right! Seeing that burst of gold confetti after cutting it open was an unforgettable moment. Flying to Joburg from Cape Town turned out to be the best decision ever.


How do you plan on spending your winnings


I plan to use the money to make life easier for my family in every way I can.

How does it feel to be Western Cape’s NEWEST Millionaire?


It feels like a dream come true—so unreal, yet incredibly exciting to say that I’m officially a millionaire!



No, I never even thought I’d make it to the final round. But here I am and it’s surreal to have made it this far!


What was going through your mind during the last round?


I just thought I’ve made it this far in the competition, so whatever’s meant to happen will happen. When I saw gold in the cake, I immediately knew that I have just won the R1 Million grand prize.



Firstly, I want to pay off my debts, set a date to get married, finally spoil my kids and secure a better life for them.
