One lucky person has claimed the Euro Millions £57 million jackpot (R1,1 billion in South Africa) at the 11the hour. The draw took place on the 17th of March and was won by a single ticket holder in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The prize was due to expire at 23:59 on Sunday but a successful claim was validated over the weekend. Players are given 180 days to make claims on prizes but if nobody hands over the lucky ticket then the cash will be handed to a good cause.

The winner’s identity is still unknown, however, he/she will now make the list of some of the wealthiest people alongside celebrities such as Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe, Manchester United's Paul Pogba and One Direction's Zayn Malik. The winning numbers were 5, 7, 8, 16, 20 with Lucky Stars 2 and 12.

A man from Brisbane, Australia, won $1 Million (R11,9 million in South Africa) after playing the same lottery numbers for 20 years! The lucky winner realised that he had won the Gold Lotto draw late Monday evening.

“My wife and I saw that we had won at about nine o’clock last night and we didn’t get much sleep after that”, he told officials on Tuesday morning.

“I have been playing those exact numbers for about 20 years. I can’t believe they’ve finally come up. It’s incredible. Honestly, I never thought this would happen, you hope, and you pray, but you never think you will actually win the lottery”.

The lucky winner plans on investing his winnings in his and his wife’s retirement.
