LottoStar contributes R100,000 towards Dr Sindi Van Zyl’s hospital bill. The famous doctor was diagnosed with Covid-19 at the beginning of the year and admitted to the hospital due to Covid-related complications.
She cannot breathe on her own and has been placed on the ventilator after suffering several complications from her long stay in the ICU. The ventilator is reported to cost over R150,000 per week.
So far, Sindi’s family has paid over R1 Million towards her hospital bill.
According to Sindi’s family, she was ‘in between’ medical aids before suddenly needing medical care. The family has sadly run out of funds and reached out to the public for assistance through their family trust, KHAYA Trust and using the hashtag #GiftSindiLife on Twitter.
Doctor Sindi’s loving and activist nature saw few organisations, including LottoStar, come through with donations towards her hospital and other medical costs.
She’s well-known for her scientific work on guiding and supporting couples and individuals infected with HIV to achieve safe pregnancies.
The loving doctor has also made an appearance on the Afrikaans TV soapie, 7de Laan, contributed as radio DJ on Kaya FM, a columnist on Health24 and Bona Magazine.
She is also known for sharing her journey with depression and health-related issues on her Twitter account.
The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa were reported at 1,552,416 on 5th April 2021, by the minister of health, Dr Zweli Mkhize.
