The luck of the Irish was on the side of two lucky lottery winners in Phoenix and Gilbert. The two lucky winners found the happiness of the leprechaun’s gold when they won $718,389 (over R10 Million in South Africa) Triple Twist Jackpot on Saint Patrick’s Day.

The two lucky winners matched all six numbers and will be splitting the jackpot. The winning tickets were reported to have been sold at a store in Phoenix and a Safeway in Gilbert.

However, the two tickets are still unclaimed.

The Arizona Lottery is requesting winners to check their tickets and come forward to claim their windfall.

 donates R100,000 to creche owner, Tanya van Rooyen, whose house was tragically destroyed on Sunday by a fire.

“Everything burned down within 10 to 15 minutes”, cried Tanya.

During her struggle to open the door, Tanya didn't realize that her house had caught fire when she returned home from work on Sunday. The fire quickly spread to the point of a devastating explosion after she opened the door.

Unfortunately, Tanya was not able to do anything but watch her house burn down with everything inside, leaving her destitute.

Tanya’s tragedy moved us as we listened to her story on 

Tanya's creche is also on the same property as her house and it wasn't badly damaged because her neighbours jumped in and extinguished the fire. Nonetheless, it will remain closed for the remainder of the week because of the amount of smoke inside.

In October last year, Tanya’s creche in Boksburg, made the news when her neighbours acquired two white tigers and kept them in their backyard overlooking the creche. The teachers at the creche got a shock when they looked up and saw a white tiger watching them. This made Tanya reach out to different organizations including 947 for help.

Therefore, when the station decided to do a follow-up on her story, they were met with tragic news. During the radio segment, Jo’burgers called in to offer support to the inconsolable Tanya.

LottoStar’s leading lady, Tasoulla Hurwitz, was also amongst them and gave a contribution of R100,000 to support Tanya.

We hope that the contribution will assist Tanya in rebuilding everything she has lost.

1. How does it feel to be Jozi's NEWEST Millionaire?


It feels awesome. It’s a great feeling that I can’t really explain.

2. Did you have a feeling that you'd win?


Yes, I did. I woke with this great feeling that something great was about to happen and it did.

3. What was going through your mind when the money wheel was spinning in the final round?

My stomach was turning throughout the whole thing. I couldn’t even look at the spinning wheel but in my mind, I kept on calling out the colour ‘green’.


It will go towards my children’s education, renovating my house and paying off some of my debts.

5. Was this the first time entering any of LottoStar's competitions?


Yes. I always wanted to enter LottoStar’s previous competitions but for some odd reason, I never did. However, this time around I saw that R1 Million grand prize advertised and I knew that I had to enter.

Part 2 | How Lucky Can You Get?

This quote proves to be true for a group of selfless doctors and other medical professionals who founded Operation Healing Hands (OHH) with the hope of giving back to the community in commemoration of Nelson Mandela Day.

Operation Healing Hands is one of the selected charities in LottoStar’s 

 competition with Jacaranda FM, running between 14 June and 2 July 2021.


OHH is a non-profit organisation that was founded by a group of doctors and medical professionals with the aim of relieving pressure from government hospitals by providing free surgeries and post-operative care to the underprivileged. The organisation’s aim is to close the socioeconomic gap of patients that need life-changing surgeries in the private and public healthcare sectors.

Patients are provided with free surgeries and medical care through donations that the organisation receive. OHH also covers the medical expenses and services on behalf of patients.

These life-changing surgeries restore hope and give patients an improved quality of life so that they can get back to enjoying life, return to work and contribute to the economy once more.

Expenses covered by OHH on behalf of patients:

Consultations and pre-operative procedures

Surgeries (e.g. orthopaedics, otolaryngology, plastic and general surgery, ophthalmology, urology and dentistry)

In-hospital treatments, X-rays, and medication

Post-operative follow-up, medication, and treatment for a three-month period

Post-operative rehabilitation, including physiotherapy or prosthetics, if required

Medical professionals involved volunteer their services while the private hospitals sponsor most of the theatre time and other medical processes required.

Other medical companies sponsor prostheses like hip and knee and other implants required at no cost to the patients.

Part 1 | How Lucky Can You Get?

 and this week’s final charity contributions will go towards 

 – a non-profit organisation formed by a community of volunteers to serve and support patients and staff members at the Karl Bremer hospital, Western Cape.

The Daisy Project aims to reduce the long waiting list of patients awaiting surgeries by getting doctors and nurses to volunteer their expertise and services at no cost.

Medical procedures occur once a month, on a select Saturday, at the Karl Bremer hospital. However, the organisation hopes to expand to other government hospitals and impact as many lives as it can.

The Daisy Project works through the theatre lists provided by the hospital. Their services are also extended towards patients who’ve fallen off the list due to emergencies.

The Daisy Projects relies on donations and volunteer work from doctors and nurses in the community. Sometimes they must buy some of the services from locum medical practitioners to assist with reducing the waiting list.

"The donation will be used towards the surgeries that we perform. With the amount you have given us, we should be able to continue for another year. And because of the finances, we might be able to run double lists, that will increase our output even more", reported The Daisy Project.

Part 3 | Charity contributions in the LottoStar & Kfm May Money Madness competition

 and this week’s total charity contributions will go towards our second charity, 

 – a non-profit organisation offering surgeries to men diagnosed with prostate cancer.

“Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer in men in over one half of the countries in the world and a leading cause of cancer death in many countries, particularly in sub – Saharan Africa. In South Africa, there were 476 cases of prostate cancer reported to the Ekurhuleni Population-Based Cancer Registry in 2018 resulting in an ASR for all males of 30.96/100 000 and a lifetime risk of 1:25 men”, reported the National Health Laboratory Service.

Prostate cancer treatment was previously offered in the private healthcare facilities only and due to the high costs involved, it could not be offered in the public healthcare sector.

However, with funding and contributions towards Project Peacock, this narrative was changed and over 2 years later, this procedure is now made available in public hospitals.


Project Peacock was co-founded by Urologist, Dr. Justin Howlett, to offer prostrate cancer treatment to those who couldn’t afford it through donations and contributions.

Dr. Justin Howlett’s main concerns are the poor awareness surrounding prostate cancer and the inaccessible urology services in the Western Cape, which leads to late detections or diagnosis in patients.

It’s the organisation’s main aim to address and improve the situation through their public-private partnerships that will enable over 12 men to receive life-saving brachytherapy at the Groote Schuur hospital, in a year.

There’s currently a huge burden at Groote Schuur for prostate cancer patients awaiting dates for treatment. The wait could be for months and those with non-urgent urology cases are placed on a year-long waiting list.

The current treatment options available for prostate patients are surgery or radiotherapy.

However, Project Peacock is the only state institution in South Africa to offer brachytherapy – a minimally aggressive therapeutic option. It is often used to cure cancers of the head and neck, breast, cervix, prostate, and eye.

Part 2 | May Money Madness Donations

, to give back to the women in desperate need of breast cancer surgeries from the 

 competition’s contributions in the first week.

According to global statistics, “Breast cancer is one of the commonest female cancers in the vast majority of countries and the leading cause of cancer death in over 100 countries globally”.

, we would like to make a difference in the lives of the women who are affected and diagnosed with breast cancer. The total contributions in the first week of the competition will be donated to Project Flamingo.


Project Flamingo was founded by a qualified surgeon, Dr Liana Roodt, to assist women who were subjected to long waiting periods before receiving life-saving breast cancer surgeries and medical treatment in public healthcare facilities.

With the enormous burden faced by public healthcare to provide surgeries for cancer patients, the waiting period for patients could go up to 14 weeks.

The organisation raises funds for catch-up surgeries at the Groote Schuur, Tygerberg and Livingstone hospitals in Cape Town to fill in the gap.

For a fair and objective selection of patients, project lists are scheduled a year in advance, dates are added in the hospital’s booking system and the hospital provides names of patients to the organisation.

Each year, the organisation allocates funds for a specialist to spend at least 4 hours, every week, at the Breast Cancer Unit. Depending on the type of procedures to be performed and the availability of staff, about four to nice patients receive their surgeries per list.

Project Flamingo understands the medical care that cancer patients need and require patients to be part of the entire treatment plan – from surgeries to formal oncology procedures, chemotherapy, and post-surgery follow-ups.


Individuals or organisations can donate to Project Flamingo by sponsoring a life-saving surgery, pamper packs for newly diagnosed patients or by volunteering their time.

It was a Good Friday indeed for one lucky UK winner who scooped a massive £122 Million (over R2,4 Billion in South Africa) EuroMillions jackpot. The lucky winner matched 5 EuroMillions numbers and 2 Lucky Stars on Friday, 2 April.

This is the fifth-largest jackpot win in European National Lottery history. It is also the second EuroMillions jackpot win this year after the New Year’s Day £39 Million (over R783 Million) jackpot win.

“What brilliant news, one UK winner has scooped tonight’s massive £122 million EuroMillions jackpot,” joyously commented the senior winner’s adviser, Andy Carter.

“They are now the fifth biggest ever National Lottery winner,” he continued.

According to the UK’s Evening Standard, this win puts the lucky winner in the top 1000 of Sunday Times’ rich list 2020. But the question remains, who’s the lucky winner?

The Good Friday EuroMillions winning numbers were: 04-21-34-40-47, and the Lucky Star numbers were 02 and 05.

The highest EuroMillions jackpot win was in February this year when a Swiss player bagged over £180 Million (over R3,6 Billion).
