I am over the moon. I have placed multiple bets but they resulted in small wins. However, I knew one day I would win big.

I was hoping for the highest jackpot but this R3,7 Million is life-changing and will make a huge difference in my life.

How does it feel to win in our first ever Gold Bar Giveaway?


I’m at a loss for words. I have been praying to win something big from LottoStar. So, when I found out about the Gold Bar Giveaway, I knew I had to had to participate because I was already going through financial difficulty and needed a miracle.




Yes, I did have this funny feeling that I’d win and when I saw an SMS from LottoStar about the giveaway, I knew I had to try my luck and it paid off at the end.

What was going through your mind during the Gold Bar Giveaway?


I was busy with work and I got the reminder SMS about the giveaway which was about to take place from LottoStar. A few minutes later, another one came through congratulating me on winning. In my mind I thought the winnings would be R3000 or something small but I couldn’t believe my eyes when I finally opened my profile to check my credits and that it was a huge amount.



Why did you opt for the money, rather than the 1kg gold bar?


I needed the money more because I have family dependent on me financially and also the debts that I need to pay off.




Apart from going back to school and investing in my daughter’s education, I was busy renovating my home, so I would like to wrap it up. How does it feel to win in our first Gold Bar Giveaway?


This is an exciting gift from God because of the financial situation I was in. I feel like my prayers have finally been answered. Although, I’m still in disbelief. I spent last night crying, praying and thanking God for this miraculous gift which came right on time.




Not at all. The giveaway did cross my mind; however, I was hoping for the R10,000 prize because that amount alone would have changed my life. Little did I know I’d take the grand prize. I never thought I’d win.


Well, firstly I had no data, so I had to use my girlfriend’s cellphone. Then halfway through the race, I received a text saying, “Congratulations”, which implied I had won something. When I saw the amount on my profile, I was in disbelief.I couldn’t even speak.




My business is in desperate need of a financial boost. The grand prize came in handy. I’m in the business of recycling scrap metal, with this money, I will now be able to settle my business debts, secure premises for my business, invest in a metal press machine. I also intend to share some of it with my mom and my local church that have always supported me when I was down.

“One stupid mistake can change everything”. Imagine a simple mistake resulting in a million-dollar payout. Lotteries rely heavily on randomness; however, an Iowa resident matched the first 5 numbers on a Mega Millions draw and won $1 Million (R15 664 950,00 in South Africa) over what he believes was a clerical mistake.

Josh Buster won a life-changing $1 Million (R15 664 950,00) in the Mega Millions draw after a simple mistake was made by a store cashier. Buster asked for five ‘easy ticket plays’ for the Mega Millions on one ticket. However, the cashier mistakenly printed out one play ticket but after recognizing her mistake, she offered to print out 4 additional plays on a different ticket.

"I feel like that changed the numbers that I would have gotten if she had put them all on one instead of making that mistake,” Buster said. The Mega Millions ticket matched the first five numbers but missed the Mega Ball which would have resulted in a $20 million (R313 298 953,01) jackpot win.

Nonetheless, Buster is pleased with his fortune as he is a skeptic who does not believe in luck. On the contrary, he believes that the mistake resulted in a million-dollar cheque.

According to the Mega Millions website, the probability of winning $1 Million was 1 in 12,607,306.

Josh, a prep cook, intends to pay off his car and his mother’s mortgage and then invest the rest of the winnings in his retirement.

“No more of the financial worries,” he exclaimed.

It feels awesome. It’s a great feeling that I can’t really explain.

3. What was going through your mind when the money wheel was spinning in the final round?

My stomach was turning throughout the whole thing. I couldn’t even look at the spinning wheel but in my mind, I kept on calling out the colour ‘green’.


It will go towards my children’s education, renovating my house and paying off some of my debts.

5. Was this the first time entering any of LottoStar's competitions?
