Meet our first recipient, Liza Bouwer, a single mother in need. Liza’s festive wish is to erect a tombstone for her twin girls who passed away in 2006.

A few days after birth, one of the babies passed away in hospital. The other baby got meningitis at 8 months and passed away in hospital.

“I lost my twins in 2006 and never really thought of putting up a tombstone as we kept the grave clean, but with some people stealing and messing up the place I wanted to save up for a tombstone, but it's been impossible this year coz of financial reasons”, wrote Liza.

We’ve granted Liza’s festive wish and contributed a total of R25,400 towards her twin girls’ tombstone and other essentials for Liza and her family.

When it comes to a crisis, an abundance of money does not get rid of unforeseen circumstances that may come your way but it can certainly help reduce the stress, effects and seriousness of most situations. The Perks of Being Wealthy - Big Win Lifestyle

“Please pray for my little boy”. This was a mother’s plea for help on Facebook after her son had suffered 30 seizures in a day.

Linda Botha, a single mother of 5 from Springs, has been trying to keep her faith through the hardships she’s been enduring. Her 10-year-old son, Reynhardt suffered 30 seizures this past weekend and was admitted in a paediatric ICU at the Life Springs Parkland Clinic. Doctor’s at the clinic said that they’ve never seen ‘so many seizures in one day, in a little body’.

Linda’s Facebook message read, “Please Pray for my little Boy, He had 7 Seizures at home today, 16 in Casualties and again 7 Seizures in The East Wing and then they decided to send him to ICU. 30 Seizures in one day (Worst kind ever). Doctors never saw something like that in their lives.

Reynhardt’s seizures were a result of the constant bullying he endured at his school from three grade 7 boys. He has suffered so severely that his body gave into the immense anxiety and stress resulting in these seizures. His mother was devastated to hear this.

Linda says that Reynhardt only started recently to express that he didn’t want to go school but she had no idea what was happening. Reynhardt’s father has taken the matter up with the school but unfortunately, the damage cannot be undone. Reynhardt is in Paediatrics ICU at Parkland at this moment. “I'm not allowed to stay over, feels like my whole world is falling apart,” says Linda.

Linda has medical aid. However, it doesn’t cover the CT scans and other tests needed to diagnose Reynhardt’s medical condition. She’s required to pay R3,213 before the scans and tests are done.

To add to her hardships, Linda’s car was stolen after she lost her job and couldn’t pay her water and electricity bill for this month. She’s been using her mother’s old car which has mechanical issues at most times. Linda’s support has been her church and friends.

It was one of Linda’s friends, Elmarie van Wyk, who reached out to Good Morning Angels for assistance or some sort of ‘miracle in the storm’ for her good friend. Linda’s miracle came in a form of a R65,000 contribution from LottoStar and Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels. The contribution will go towards Reynhardt’s outstanding medical costs and treatment, Linda’s car, food and other basic necessities for the family.

LottoStar previously assisted families in need through our ‘With Love’ campaign with Jacaranda FM earlier this year and this ‘miracle’ contribution was from the remaining funds.

LottoStar Donation Supports 10-Year-Old Facing Daily Seizures

Do you believe that an accident is a fate misnamed? Or that there are no accidents but just encounters in history? How about buying an extra lottery ticket accidentally, for it to be the winning lottery ticket?

Meet 56-year-old Samir Mazahem, a man who accidentally bought an extra lotto ticket that won him $2 Million (R32,5 Million in South Africa) in the Mega Millions lotto draw which took place on 9 June.

Mazahem, who hails from Dearborn Heights, Michigan, only meant to buy one ticket for the Mega Millions. However, after Mazahem bought his first ticket, he forgot to save his played numbers as his favourites to play them again in the future. Thereafter, when he logged back into the Michigan lottery app, he accidentally bought a second ticket instead of saving the numbers.

"What I didn’t realize is that meant I would be buying a second ticket with the same numbers. Once I figured out I had bought two tickets with identical numbers, I was a little bummed but didn’t think much about it," explained Mazahem.

Mazahem played his family’s birthdays 01-05-09-10-23 and it paid off with a whopping $2 Million windfall.

“Winning is exciting and gives me some comfort knowing that when I retire, I will have money in the bank,” said Mazahem.

The lucky man plans to buy a home with some of his winnings and save the rest for his retirement.

Mazahem’s story just confirmed Bob Ross’ quote that says, “We don’t make mistakes. We just have happy accidents”. Your happiness could just be around the corner.

In addition, the millionaire couple splurged on building their dream home.

Matt and Cassie purchased a 1930s mansion in Adams Hill, Nottingham, for £1.2million (R24 Million) – which they demolished to make way for their new home, a £5 million (R102 Million) eight-bedroom eco-home named 'Serenity'.

Their lavish dream mansion consists of a sound-proof cinema, a botanical garden, a swimming pool and much more. However, not everyone was impressed with the couple’s flashy mansion as many of their neighbours criticised their home calling it ‘out of character for the area’ but when you have millions in your bank account why would you be concerned with your nosey neighbours?

What was your first reaction when you realised you won R300,000 on our Dazzle Drop Wildcat Game?

At first, I did not realise that I had won big but when I looked at my results again, I was in utter disbelief. It was a real surprise.

I shared the news with my husband and he was just as shocked as I was. We were both absolutely gobsmacked.

I thought I would win as I started betting early that morning and I was winning quite a bit throughout the day. However, not in my wildest dreams did I think that I would win R300,000.

DAZZLE DROP WILDCAT JACKPOT WINNER

Living the millionaire life may not be everyone’s idea of ‘the perfect life’. Just take Hairdresser, Susan Herdman who won £1,2 Million (R25 Million) in 2010 in the UK National Lottery. Instead of doing what most people would do, swapping their everyday lives for a life of luxury and opulence, Susan decided to live a seemingly simple life.

Before winning a major lottery jackpot 10 years ago, Susan was a single parent who was struggling to make ends meet. Besides her major Lottery win, she has not given up her working life. “I’ve been a hard worker all my life,” says Susan, 52. “I’ve always had jobs and my parents instilled in me that if you want something, work for it – no one gives you a life – and don’t get into debt.”

Susan started purchasing a lottery ticket just after the National Lottery launched in 1994, she would buy a ticket for her dad each week. When he stopped playing the lottery, Susan continued to play the same numbers as her dad as she believed that one day she would win on those numbers.

“It was like an absolute strong inner belief that I was going to win,” she explains. “When I was doing my clients’ hair, I never used to say ‘if’ I win the lottery. It was ‘when’.”

Years later, one of Susan’s clients offered to read her Tarot cards, she joked around and told Susan that “one day she’d win the lottery”.

As Susan recounts, “it was a bit of fun, we had a couple of glasses of wine, and she said, ‘I am not a fortune teller. I’m not psychic. You are picking the cards that you want and then I am just telling you what each card means.

“She sat back in her chair and said, ‘You’d best get a lottery ticket because it looks to me like you’re going to win the lottery.’ So, we just laughed about it and she went, ‘No, really. The world is your oyster.”

That same night, Susan posted what her friend had predicted on Facebook and believe it or not, her prediction was spot on!

“I was cooking tea and hearing Dale Winton’s voice in the next room. So, I ran through and I pressed pause. I went back into the kitchen and got my spaghetti carbonara to eat on my lap and as I looked up at the numbers frozen on the screen I started shaking.”

The jackpot had rolled over to £7,500,000 (R158 Million) that week, nervous, Susan dialled the number on the back of the ticket.

“When a lady answered, I said, ‘I think I’ve won the lottery.’ It’s all a bit of a blur but she told me to put my name and address on the ticket and keep it safe – and write down a password because tomorrow morning somebody will ring and they will say that password, so then I would know they were legit.” Susan did as she was told.”

Susan was buzzing with excitement and decided to go to karaoke that evening, she put her ticket in her bra for safekeeping and did not tell anyone about her win. When Susan returned home at midnight, she checked her laptop and saw that 5 people had won the jackpot which meant her prize would be £1,1 Million (R23 Million).

“There were no hysterics, no running around the room screaming. It was just this big, ‘Thank God. Thank you.’ Just absolute relief that if I was careful, I’d be OK financially for the rest of my life. I wouldn’t have to just constantly battle against the clock, squeezing in appointments.”

Susan shared the amazing news with her parents the next day, “I said, ‘I’ve won the lottery.’ And at that point, I burst into floods of tears. My mum was speechless, and my dad literally jumped up and grabbed me and said, ‘About bloody time!”

Unlike many winners who would opt to live a life of luxury after winning a major lottery, Susan continued working in her salon for the first six months after winning. Later, Susan decided to relocate to live with her boyfriend, Andrew who is a pig farmer and owns a farm in North Yorkshire. She may have chosen to lead a simple life but Susan made sure to splurge on a large motorhome which would allow her and Andrew to enjoy their motorsports hobby. She also treated her two sisters and parents to holidays and cars.

Susan maintains that the money has not changed her and is happy living her simple life, she has also asked her friends to treat her normally. She wishes that everyone could experience winning the lottery. “My advice is just be sensible,” she says. “Don’t go crazy. Appreciate that happiness can’t be bought.”
