With an extension of the national lockdown, it’s doom and gloom for most families and households who are currently dealing with financial burdens that come with the restrictions. They are struggling to make it through this dark cloud that has fallen upon the country and the world as a whole. LottoStar and Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels (GMA) joined forces to assist as many families or households as they can during this national lockdown.

Recipient 1: Danie Horn from Arcadia in Pretoria, Gauteng

Danie is a founder of Homeless Solutions, a non-profit organisation created to provide shelter and meals for the homeless. Danie was once homeless and living on the streets of Pretoria and 15 years later decided to make a difference in the lives of those who were once homeless like him. He was nominated by his co-worker, Sechaba Potse. The organisation relies on sponsors and donations to survive, however, with the lockdown in place, they’re struggling to keep up as there’s barely any donations coming through. Danie received R10 000 Angel Rands to help feed the homeless during these trying times.

Recipient 2: Shirley Coetzee from Secunda, Mpumalanga

Shirley runs a hospice for the terminally ill in Secunda, Mpumalanga. She has 11 patients currently in her care with 5 staff members on two shifts (day and night shifts) to assist. With the national lockdown in place, patients cannot receive visitors nor go outside for their daily walks. The hospice depends on donations from the public and their local church to buy food and essentials for their patients, but this has run dry due to the current conditions. An angel and Shirley’s daughter, Elynn, contacted us requesting assistance for her mother and the hospice. LottoStar and Jacaranda FM’s GMA sent Shirley R10 000 Angel Rands to assist with the groceries and essentials required for the care and needs of patients at the hospice.

Recipient 3: Marinda Potgieter from Eloff, Gauteng

Marinda was nominated by her brother, André, to be one of the R10 000 Angel Rands recipients from LottoStar and Jacaranda FM’s GMA. Marinda lost her husband and sole breadwinner in December 2019. Marinda and her husband had taken in her brother, André after their parents passed on. They also took in Marinda and André’s deceased brother’s 10-year-old child. With Marinda’s husband deceased, she had to take over the responsibilities of taking care of the household financially. She finally landed a job in March this year, but all her hopes and dreams were shattered when her employer announced a no-work-no-pay leave during the lockdown period. She received a half portion of her salary, making it difficult to meet her household’s financial needs and expenses. We sent Marinda the R10 000 Angel Rands to assist with her household’s groceries and essentials.

Recipient 4: Precious Mogosetse from Mamelodi in Pretoria, Gauteng

Precious lost her 6-year-old son, Botshelo, who was suffering from cerebral palsy and epilepsy this past week. She’s unemployed and lives in a one-room house with her mother, aunt and cousin. She’s faced with the cost of her son’s funeral and won’t be able to receive support and donations from her extended family, relatives and community due to the current lockdown restrictions. Bontle Maloka, a friend of Precious, reached out to us requesting assistance for Precious during this dark period in her life. We send our condolences to Precious and R10 000 Angel Rands to assist with groceries and essentials in preparation for her son’s funeral.

Recipient 5: Yolandi Schönfeldt, admin clerk from Pretoria, Gauteng

Nominated by a colleague, Christine Gouws, Yolandi needs financial support as she is currently struggling to keep up with her household expenses. Her husband worked as a retail manager but got retrenched 18 months ago after purchasing their home and is struggling to find employment. For months now, they’ve been struggling to pay their bond for their new home and are pleading for a ‘payment holiday’ with the banks. They’ve sold all they could to pay their house bond but it’s still not enough. Her salary is not enough to cover all the household expenses too. Her colleague, Christine, also tries to assist with school expenses for Yolandi’s two grandchildren. We are sending R10 000 Angel Rands to Yolandi to assist with groceries and essentials during this lockdown period.

Part 7 | LottoStar & Jacaranda FM contribute R1 Million to families in need

A Good Friday it was for today’s 5 recipients. These are trying times for many households and families throughout the country due to the national lockdown. But we strive to be a glimmer of hope to those in financial need and support by offering R10 000 Angel Rands to nominees throughout the country. Together we can overcome these dark and challenging times. We look forward to your nominations and to touching as many lives as we can, one day at a time, with your help of course. Masibambane – let’s work together!

Recipient 1: Lindy Bekker from Mamelodi, Gauteng

Lindy’s prayers were answered after nominating herself to be one of the R10 000 Angel Rands recipients. Lindy, like many others across the country, won’t be receiving a salary for the duration of the national lockdown. She has 3 children to provide for and her hopes were dashed when her kids’ father also received a no-work-no-pay letter from his employer. Feeling helpless and hopeless, she turned to GMA to assist her through this difficult period.

Recipient 2: Hendrik van Vuuren, a boilermaker from Bethal, Mpumalanga

Hendrik is a boilermaker, working for Eskom as a contract worker through another company. This is a very bleak and challenging period for Hendrik as his contracts got cancelled and cannot earn a salary now due to the lockdown. With nowhere to turn to, this husband and father of 2 reached out to LottoStar and Jacaranda FM’s GMA looking for help. Hendrick receives R10 000 in Angel Rands.

Recipient 3: Pastor Mathys van der Vyver from Bronkhorstpruit, Gauteng

Pastor Mathys van der Vyver was ‘touched by an angel’ named Jane Seaward. Jane nominated pastor Mathys after being faced with nearly losing their 1-year-old foster daughter, Mikayla. She was found in their swimming pool with no heartbeat and had to be airlifted to the Steve Biko Academic Hospital. Through a community of prayers and the hardworking medical team at the hospital, little Mikayla was taken off the ventilators yesterday. However, the medical costs and all other expenses put a financial strain on the pastor and his family. Pastor Mathys has 3 other children to care for but is faced with the uncertainty of making it financially through this lockdown period. A blessed Good Friday it turned out to be for the pastor and his family as we are sending them R10 000 in Angel Rands.

Recipient 4: Helen Botha from Mayville, Pretoria

Helen Botha was nominated by an angel named Hendrick Fritz. She’s the sole breadwinner to a family of 5 but is currently unable to sustain them due to the national lockdown. Medical bills, rent and other expenses are weighing heavily on Helen and her family. Her 1-year-old is sickly and requires medical care. Helen hasn’t been able to pay rent for the last 3 months and struggling to provide basic needs and to top it all, she won’t be receiving an income during this period. We are sending Helen R10 000 in Angel Rands to assist during these trying times.

Recipient 5: Frans Segogela, self-employed from Ga-Rankuwa, North West

Frans was nominated by his brother, Rufus Monyepoa to be one of the recipients of the R10 000 Angel Rands. Frans is self-employed and the sole breadwinner in his family. He works with stones –cladding, paving and any related stonework. He has two children and a wife who depend on him but is facing difficulties in providing for them financially due to not being able to make a living because of the lockdown in place. Your R10 000 Angel Rands is on the way, Frans.

Part 5 | R1 Million Donated To Families

This Good Friday, six more families receive a helping hand in the LottoStar and East Coast Radio 100 households initiative. Spread hope and be a light in someone’s life by nominating a household or family that needs finical relief during this difficult time. Listen to East Coast Radio each day and 

Rubeshen was nominated by his neighbour, Bhanwathy Nathoo. Rubeshen is a bus driver and the breadwinner in his family, he starts work very early and finishes late in the evening. He works seven days a week so that he can afford to put food on the table for his family. Rubeshen is now on unpaid leave as the company he is employed by has no money to pay him because of the lockdown. Last month Rubeshen’s house caught on fire and him and his family lost all their valuables. Rubeshen is a single dad as his wife passed away three years ago and needs to provide for his family during this difficult time. Rubeshen is one of the recipients of R10 000.

Sheralee is a swim coach, she teaches swimming at some of the schools in town and she runs a learn to swim program in a gym. Before the lockdown began Sheralee relied on the fees from the schools and her learn to swim program as an income. Those swimmers do not pay any fees during the winter months, therefore, her income is considerably lowered under normal circumstances. Due to the early closing of schools and the lockdown, Sheralee has lost some of her winter nest egg. Sheralee who is a single mother to twin boys can’t afford to have a place of her own and lives with her brother and her mother. Her brother recently lost his job, so he is also living in the house with his wife and their two small kids. Sheralee is currently the sole breadwinner for this family of eight and now she has to face the reality of not having her usual savings to sustain her through the lockdown. Thanks to Ilza Wichmann’s nomination, Sheralee is one of the recipients of R10 00.

Christopher was nominated by Andre Oosthuyzen and is one of the recipients of R10 000. Christopher is self-employed but due to the lockdown he cannot continue with his work. His dad recently passed away and he is a breadwinner to his mother sister and niece. Christopher will do anything for his family but the lockdown has made it difficult for him to provide for them.

Delisile is one of the recipients of R10 000 and was nominated by Thulani Chirwa. Delisile is a mother of three and a grandmother to two grandchildren, both of her sons are unemployed and her daughter is in high school. Delisile and her family all live in a two-room shack with her husband who is also unemployed. Over the last five years, Delisile has occasionally worked for Thulani, doing his laundry and housework. She is not able to work due to the lockdown which means she cannot earn an income over this period. Delisile is compassionate and a dedicated and a loving mother to her family.

Simone is a single mother to three daughters, her children’s father left which means she has to raise her children on her own. Simone works at a creche but due to lockdown she cannot work and is not earning an income. She is already behind on her rent payments and currently has no electricity which is essential as her baby needs warm milk. Simone is running her home on absolutely nothing and is in desperate need of financial assistance. Thanks to Simmone Mahadeo’s nomination, Simone is one of the recipients of R10 000.

Megiel was nominated by Derek Osborne and is one of the recipients of R10 000. Megiel is a handyman who does occasional handy work to support his family of three. Since the lockdown, he does not have any income to support his family and his in laws as they live with him too. Megiel will go out of his way to help everyone, he is always friendly and willing to assist others. Megiel’s family need financial assistance through the lockdown.

Part 5 | LottoStar & East Coast Radio contributes a share of R1 million to households in need

During this difficult and uncertain time we have made it our duty to provide as many households as possible with finanacial assaitance. These are the five families that recieved R10 000, today in the LottoStar and East Coast Radio 100 households initiative.

Jonathan was nominated by Cliiff McLean and is one of the recipients of R10 000. Jonathan who is an electronics Technician cares for his elderly mom and dad. His dad is bedridden as he suffers with Alzheimer and cancer and his mother is wheelchair bound. Jonathan, his brother and sister live with their parents. Jonathan’s brother, Ryan, was hit by a motorist while riding his bicycle last year and broke his neck and is slowly recovering. The family live on whatever work they can get. They receive most of their income from their sister’s dog grooming business and some from Jonathan’s electronics work but their parents need constant care. This takes up most of their time so earning money comes second. The government pensions that their parents receive are not enough to sustain them.

The Ntuli family consists of Lifa Ntuli, Zodwa Ntuli and their son who is in primary school. Both Lifa and Zodwa are unemployed which means they do not have any reliable source of income. To make ends meet, Lifa learnt a trade as a welder and uses his skill to make metal burglar proofing for windows and doors. He sells the burglar proofing to his neighbours and relies on these sales to feed him and his family. With the hardware stores being closed due to lockdown, Lifa cannot buy his supplies to make his burglar bars. Zodwa is a waste recycler, she collects cupboards and sells them to the waste buy back centres but due to the lockdown she is not able to sell her cupboards. Lifa Ntuli is one of the recipients of R10 000 and was nominated by Nicholas Ndlela.

Sarah Mgqaluza, lives in a disadvantaged informal settlement where poverty is rife. Sarah and her family are amongst some of the most vulnerable people in their neighbourhood they cannot afford most of their basic necessities and they live on handouts. The situation has become worse for them during the lockdown as her children would get their midday meal from neighbours. Sarah sold sweets at a school and her husband would get occasional jobs to put food on their table. Since the lockdown, their situation has gone from bad to worse. Sarah will receive R10 000 and was nominated by Vincent Monchusi.

Elaine is one of the recipients of R10 000 and she was nominated by Rashid Shaik. Elaine is a self-employed hairdresser, she supports her household and pays her bills with the income from her hairdresser. Since the start of the pandemic, business has been slow which means her income has been minimal. The lockdown has made matters worse as she now has no income. Elaine made sure that she would have enough money for food during the lockdown but fears that she won’t be able to pay for any of her other living expenses.

Nominated by Beverley Moorgas, Frank Fynn is one of the recipients of R10 000. Frank is an independent construction contractor and a pastor in his community. He is always willing to help the community in times of need and provides continuous employment to about 10 to 15 men every day. Frank supports his family financially and his elderly mother. In addition to serving his community, Frank fosters troubled youths and teaches them a trade like how to fish for. Due to the lockdown Frank and won’t be able to provide for his family or help his community.

Part 4 | LottoStar & East Coast Radio contributes a share of R1 million to households in need

LottoStar and Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels continues to lift the financial burden faced by many households across the country due to the national lockdown. As we continue to work together to flatten the curve and social distancing, may we remember Ubuntu by offering help and support to those who need it the most. Please use the GMA platform to nominate families or households hard-hit by the current restrictions. A little does go a long way!

Recipient 1: Vanessa Dempsey, teacher from HTS Witbank, Mpumalanga

Our first R10 000 Angel Rands recipient is dedicated teacher, Vanessa Dempsey, who runs a feeding scheme at HTS Witbank. During the school term, learners from poor households receive sarmies and meals at school and hampers to take home. Vanessa receives donations for food and essentials for the feeding scheme from parents at the school, however, schools had to close early due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This posed a challenge on the project as they couldn’t collect enough food supplies for the families in need. Vanessa’s plea for help on Facebook reached the Good Morning Angels team after being forwarded by an angel named Yolandi Venter. A labour of love indeed!

Recipient 2: Chantal Carr-Williams, a beauty therapist from Pretoria, Gauteng

Chantall, is a mother, wife and sole breadwinner in her family, who runs a beauty therapy salon from her home. However, Chantal, like many other small business owners, is unable to make a living due to the current national lockdown. Chantal’s husband has been unemployed for the past 2 years. Although faced with the devastating financial effects on her household, Chantal never seizes to stretch out her hand and assist others. She provides a weekend and holiday for twin sisters from a local Children’s home. She was nominated by one of her clients, Christine, to be one of the Angel Rands recipients.

Recipient 3: MD “Diet” Masenya, a painter from Newlands, Johannesburg

Dean Bush reached out to GMA requesting assistance for “Diet” – a nickname given to him by his grandmother because he was too skinny – a self-employed painter. Diet suffered the tragedy of losing his wife to HIV. He later fell sick while working at the home of one of Dean’s friends and soon found out that he too is HIV positive. With the current lockdown in place, Diet won’t be able to earn an income and could face eviction from his rented home as he might not be able to pay rent. To add to this, Diet needs to buy food and supplies for his 2 children in Limpopo. What’s even more concerning, is the fact that Diet needs healthy food to boost his immune system because of his HIV status. We are glad that Diet received R10 000 Angel Rands to buy groceries and essentials at his nearest retail.

Recipient 4: Carli Venter and the Kameeldrift Community Project

Carli Venter is part of the trauma unit in Kammeldrift East assisting people her community with any emergency need. Carli is concerned about the high numbers of day labourers, car guards and other non-essential workers in her community who are unable to make ends meet during this lockdown period. She sent a WhatsApp message to the different groups of people serving in her community to come together and assist those in need. Different areas within the area were identified as download and pick up points for donations to be dropped off and facilitated by key personnel in those areas. These good deeds reached GMA from an angel called Mari Grunig and R10 000 in Angel Rands was sent to Carli Venter and the Kameeldrift Community Project.

Today’s last nominee and recipient of R10 000 Angel Rands is Susie Ayres who works as a guard. Susie is married with 5 children; however, her husband is unemployed, and the family relies on her income and the children’s social grants for a living. With the current national lockdown, things have become even harder for Susie and her family as she won’t be earning a salary to sustain them. The family lives in a Wendy house that they rent together with 9 other families in someone’s backyard. On Wednesday’s, the family receives a meal from the local church and during school terms, 2 of their oldest kids receive food from the school’s feeding scheme. There’s a baby in the household making it difficult to provide food and essentials for the rest of the family. Susie’s angel, Ansie Hartman, also chips in and assist the family by paying the children’s school fees and buying of stationery.

Part 4 | LottoStar & Jacaranda FM contribute R1 Million to families in need

These are the families who received R10 000, today:

Thandiwe works for Michelle Harvey who nominated her as one of the recipients of R10 000. She helps with the housework and with looking after Michelle’s children amongst many other things. Thandiwe lives with the Harvey family during the week and has now gone home to be with her family during the lockdown. Although Michelle is still paying Thandiwe, she fears that it will not be enough to get Thandiwe and her family through this difficult time. Michelle would like Thandiwe to be fully taken care of and not have to worry about paying bills and putting food on the table for her family.

Ameetha is a single mother to two daughters, she began a new job last month as she was looking for more stability for her daughters. Ameetha, unfortunately has to look for another place to live as her landlord is selling the property where her and her daughters currently live. Ameetha is struggling to make ends meet and has started selling some of her household appliances to pay for a deposit for a new place to rent. Ameetha was nominated by Prevasha Govender.

50-year-old widow and mother to three, Saras has been through “the test of time”. She survived two abusive marriages and has given her testimony about her abusive relationships to broken-hearted women at many functions. She called herself “bent but not broken.” Saras rents a small outbuilding and she feeds the needy from her garden of herbs, mealies, pumpkin, tomatoes and much more. Saras worked for a family in their neighbourhood, cooking cleaning, tiling and painting for them. A week before the lockdown she was told by the family that they would be deducting her wages if she did not work on weekends. Saras does a lot for the community and she has been through many hardships in her life but she is still smiling to the world with Love. Saras was nominated by Angie Down.

Sandra was nominated by her daughter-in-law as one of the recipients of R10 000. Sandra is a 52-year-old woman who was medically diagnosed with heel spurs on both feet and cervical spondylosis therefore she is unable to work. Unfortunately, there is no cure for her diagnosis and only symptomatic treatment for the pain. She is in chronic pain and finds it difficult to walk due to the heel spurs and she cannot get out of bed due to extreme pain experienced on her spine. In addition to her diagnosis, Sandra takes care of her 76-year-old mother, who has severe deep vein thrombosis and a necrotizing leg. Her only source of income is from her son who works on a part-time basis for an awning company. Unfortunately, her son struggles with a substance abuse problem and contributes the bare minimum to help his mother financially. Sandra uses her mother’s social grant to pay for their electricity and water but they cannot not pay the full amount each month. They struggle to make ends meet and due to the lockdown, their financial situation has gotten worse. Her son isn’t working due to the lockdown and has given his mom R200 to take care of the house financially during this lockdown period but this is not enough. Sandra takes care of her neighbours’ grandchild - she goes to work without any compensation, but she loves the child as her own.

Part 3 | LottoStar & East Coast Radio contributes a share of R1 million to households in need

Five more families and households received financial support and assistance from LottoStar and GMA. The laughter and cheers from our recipients make this an enjoyable and fulfilling journey for all. May we all continue to hold the candle, offer hope, light and support by nominating those in need during this lockdown period. The journey continues and below are today’s stories that touched our hearts.

Gerald Fitzpatrick House is a facility for the elderly in Troyville, Johannesburg. The home accommodates 79 elderly people with the oldest resident being 102 years old. Residents at the home live independently but the 37 residents who are used to cooking, cleaning and shopping for themselves, will now be in need of assistance due to the current lockdown restrictions. This now puts a financial strain on the home’s to provide some of these essential services to its residents. LottoStar and GMA contributed R10 000, to assist residents with food and essentials during this period.

Azania Patricia is an owner of Patricia’s Sewing company in Phalaborwa that employs about 17 people. Her concern as a small business owner during this lockdown period is not being able to pay salaries to her employees leaving them stranded and unable to sustain their livelihoods. Her business employs those labelled as ‘unemployable’, people with no formal qualifications and coming from very poor conditions. Some don’t meet the requirements to claim UIF. With this burden on her, Azania turned to us requiring assistance for her staff. Patricia received R10 000 from LottoStar and GMA.

Recipient 3: Marlize Herbst, sole breadwinner from Boksburg

Our next R10 000 Angel Rands recipient is 20-year old Marlize Herbst, an admin assistant from Boksburg. Last year in July, her parents’ home burnt and Marlize and her boyfriend, Dylan, had to take in her two siblings. Shortly after this tragedy, her father passed on and her mother Ronel moved in with them too. They’re currently staying in a bachelor flat and Marlize is now the sole breadwinner as her boyfriend, Dylan, lost his job too. Marlize is struggling to meet all her family’s needs even more so with the current lockdown in place. She was nominated by an angel named Mariette Schoeman.

Recipient 4: Corné de Necker, an unemployed mother from Middleburg, Mpumalanga

Corné de Necker lost her job just before the lockdown and is now faced with financial difficulties of not being able to pay rent for her one-bedroom flat, paying school fees and providing for her two children. She has sold all her valuables just to keep a roof over their head. Corné’s 74-year-old mother assisted by paying for this month’s rent but was placed on a no-work-no-pay leave for the lockdown period and won’t be able to continue doing so in the next month. Corné’s sister, Petro and husband, were also lending a helping hand by covering some of their expenses but it’s still not enough. But a beam of light broke forth for Corné after her sister nominated her to be one of the R10 000 Angel Rands.

Meet our last recipient for the day, Chanell, a mother to a 7-year-old daughter and currently pregnant with her next child. Chanell worked as a bartender and now unable to earn a salary due to the lockdown underway. She lives with her partner, mother and daughter in a one-bedroom flat with no income and food. She’s has a few weeks left before giving birth and unable to provide for her miracle baby due to the current financial difficulties she’s faced with. However, Chanell’s sister-in-law, Herma Maree, reached out to us requesting assistance for Channel and nominating her as a recipient of the R10 000 Angel Rands.

Part 3 | LottoStar & Jacaranda FM contribute R1 Million to families in need

LottoStar and East Coast Radio continue the charitable contributions in part 2 of our 100 households initiative. Tune into East Coast Radio each day until 17th April to follow the journeys of our different nominees. Read all about our nominees and their stories below.

The first recipient of R10 000 in part 2 of the LottoStar and East Coast Radio 100 household’s initiative is Carin. Nominated by her neighbour, Arthur Roets, Carin and her husband are parents to two young daughters. The young couple are both unemployed, however, Carin receives a grant each month which she uses to pay the rent for their one bedroom flat. The family has been without electricity since the 15th of December 2019 and they walk to the supermarket to buy groceries as they do not have any transport.

Raksharani was retrenched from her job last month and she suffers with varicose veins as her previous job required her to be on her feet for long hours. Raksharani has no income and her son who works part-time as a security guard can no longer work due to the lockdown. Raksharani lives in a single room apartment and she cannot afford to pay rent or any of her other basic living expenses. Raksharani was nominated by Reshma Prag.

Dinesh is a freelance SETA accredited skills facilitator, assessor & moderator in the wholesale & retail sector. He trains employees for many establishments. In addition to this, Dinesh also gives Toastmaster public speaking lesson at various schools in KZN. Due to the lockdown, he cannot carry on with his training or his public speaking lessons. Ultimately, Dinesh cannot work throughout the lockdown period and is left without an income until his business can resume. Dinesh is struggling financially and feels helpless as he cannot afford rent, school fees or his car payments. Dinesh was nominated by Sandy Narainsingh.

Lee Martin was nominated as one of the recipients of R10 000 by his friend Jeroen Verbeek. Lee has been going through a difficult time as his recent divorce left him in a difficult position, financially. His son was left in his care and the company he worked for closed which means Lee had to find an alternative method to earning an income. Lee started his own motorbike workshop but unfortunately, was forced to close his business after two years due to the worsened economy. Lee is currently working as a sub-contractor, however, the income he earns from this is not enough to sustain his living expenses and he is barely making ends meet. Before the lockdown, Lee was faced with giving up his life insurance and gap cover in order to put food on the table and with the lockdown his situation has gotten much worse. Recipient 1: Lerato Moutlana, single mother of 5 from Seshego, Limpopo

Lerato Moutlana, a single mother of 5, currently resides at her deceased parents’ home and is struggling to find employment. She relies on her children’s government grants to survive. With the national lockdown underway, Lerato faces the difficulty of making ends meet. She is also a victim of a cell phone scam and lost the little money she had. Lerato’s friend, Isaac recognised her struggles and hardships and contacted Good Morning Angels (GMA) to nominate her to be a recipient of the R10 000 Angel Rands.

Recipient 2: Vincent Joubert, main breadwinner to a family of 5 from Springs, Gauteng

For Vincent Joubert, a sound engineer, the effects of Covid-19 hit as early as January when the Chinese New Year Event and all his other shows got cancelled. This father of 3, husband and main breadwinner runs another business where he escorts abnormal loaded trucks. Sadly, Vincent’s bakkie was involved in an accident, adding another blow to his earnings and must now wait for the lockdown to be over before it gets repaired. Vincent’s wife, Elaine, couldn’t bare to see her husband’s daily struggles and looked for a way to put a smile on his face by writing to GMA to nominate him as one of the Angel Rands recipients.

Recipient 3: Caslina Sibanyoni, single mother of 4

The national lockdown restrictions put a strain on Caslina Sibanyoni’s household. This struggling single mother of 4, works as a cleaner at a company but now is unable to earn a living. To add to her pain, a week before the lockdown, Caslina lost her father. She looked after him when he was ill. She received just a portion of her salary and faced with the fear of not being able to provide for her family. But an angel named Zelda Sampson, contacted GMA to assist Caslina during these tough times. Caslina’s prayers have been answered and she is also one of the R10 000 Angel Rands recipients.

Recipient 4: Carel Bronkhorst, provider to a family of 14

Carel Bronkhorst is one of the R10 000 Angel Rands recipients after being nominated by his daughter, Melissa. Carel and his wife are currently responsible for providing for 7 adults and 7 kids and are all living in a 3-bedroom house. His daughter, Melissa, her husband and other family members lost their jobs and the ability to earn incomes due to the national lockdown thus putting strain on the family’s finances.

Recipient 5: Christelle Swanepoel, self-employed

Christelle Swanepoel nominated herself and her husband to be the recipients of the R10 000 Angel Rands. They’re both self-employed and repair fridges for a living but find themselves unable to earn an income due to the lockdown. They have two kids to provide for with the youngest being born in January this year. The family is dealing with the stress of not being able to afford nappies, formula milk, food and other essentials for their kids and the rest of the household. Some nights, Christelle’s husband goes to bed hungry as there has not been enough food for the rest of the family.
